Modern Floorplans

“Average modern Streetscapes”

By Charles and Krista White

After putting out several other projects Fabled Environments dips back into the well where they started and pulls forth a whole new set of maps. Frankly, I was surprised when I learned that after all of the great buildings and projects that Fabled Environments has put out to date that they have not given us streets sooner. With this map set, we could now just about lay out an entire town with FE products.

This product gives us three three new maps:

Professional- Lynette Group, Adnap Memorial Garden (alternate build), The Provincial Hotel, Concentrix

Commercial-Blanco Drugs, Stixx Pool Hall, St. Michael’s Pub, Ivory Note Lounge Jazz Club, Bytes Cybercafe, Flippin’ Out-Fast Food Restaurant

Residential- Farm House from Working Farm, The Marguerette Apartments

187019

One great thing that was done to further bring all the maps in the FE line together like I mentioned above.

Each Streetscape uses one of the Fabled Environments existing floorplans and provides a portion of that floorplan in the Streetscape. This makes it easy to shift between the street and the structure

Fabled Environments makes use of toggled layers to provide you with the ability to have a more personal level of control over how you want to present your maps to your players. So you don’t want to have a “Blanco Drugs” on the corner ? Remove the text layer and that problem is solved. Or maybe there is a Blanco Drugs on the corner of every street in your game world. Maybe there is something more to Blanco Drugs? It’s in your hands.

If you already own any Fabled Environments maps I highly recommend picking this product up to add it to your collection. It is not their most creative or detailed map set to date. But it likely could prove to be one of the most often used maps in the line depending on how you use them.

Where can I get it ?

Fabled Environments Modern Floorplans Mini Review

Fabled Environments is back again with another cool little map. This time not only are we getting a map of a “Modern Game Store”. But we’re getting The actual Layout of An Existing Modern Game Store!  Myself, not only do I think that this was Pretty cool but its only made better by the fact that the map is done to the ever high standard that Fabled Environments is known for.

With this product, you will also have the ability to select up to six different layers of features that you can add or take away from the finished map. This opens up tons of options!

Pulling the furniture out turns this “Game Store” into any number of useful buildings when you don’t need the furnished layer layout.

Don’t like Event Horizons cool store layout?
Fine pull the Furniture out and design the store the way you want to see it laid out !
As always, this is one of the staple reasons why I love FE products great features giving you plenty of flexibility and top quality map design.

On a side note, I looked up the Store over at Event Horizon Games and was more than a little surprised how well the Fabled Environment Map conveyed the look of the store.
Now I know you are curious so go on take a look It will be worth it.. the internet is cool!
Event Horizon Games

Now I would also mention if your up in that area give these guys a look. They were Vendors at Storm-Con last year and I hope we see them back. Very good guys with a ton of cool toys!

Map’s 2, Paper Maps.

Paper maps, at one time we probably have all used them.

Our love of the map as gamer’s for most of us began with the dreaded words we came to love as the party lit their torches. “Who will be mapping? ” dungeon1-781300Graph paper in hand you counted out ever step of the dungeon. If

you messed up you might never find your way back ! Or worse yet you might miss a room and cost your party precious loot!

No one ever took this job lightly, Yet at the same time no one ever wanted the job. It was a tedious thing. Drawing out and keeping ever left and right turn sorted. The simple jog to the left of a hall… How do I draw a Jog to the left anyway ? Yet you kept the sheets and honed your skills. Because the party HAD to have a map. They just could not do without one.

Back in the day graph paper was king of the map! Today the maps are still graphed out.. they just look allot nicer. The art has taken center stage and rare is the call out to the players “Who will be mapping?” Speed has become king with maps. Most are drawn in advance. Or purchased and printed for game.  Many are geomorphic so  you can use them over and over again.  In many different layouts.

These days you have a few options when it comes to paper maps. And sorry folks unless your a professional Drafter or artist.. or you just don’t care hand drawing paper maps is just not one of them.

First up, Gaming Paper,

You can find these guys over at http://gamingpaper.com/ These guys put out some great product for cheep. And you can even buy cthulhu wrapping paper from them !! For about 4 bucks you get 30 Sq feet of paper ! that’s a ton of blank paper for your buck.  And now Gaming Paper comes in more than one color. It’s a handy to have a roll of this stuff around.

The Pros;

430632_10150796975967067_338992527066_12305094_1010694341_nThis stuff is pretty slick you get a ton of it for the cost. It’s coated to not pick up water stains. You can draw out any kind of map you want on the fly.  You can cover whole tables at a time with this. It’s simple to cut and takes tape very well if you want to cut out your map and stick it on backer board. And unlike most other Game products.. it takes colored pencils well.  Lastly its decently rip Resistant.

Cons: In the end it’s just paper.. once you use it unless you save it for a return trip into what you have drawn its done. It can take pencil but I would just say no. Permanent it up and be done with it.

Second, Printed Maps.

There are numerous sites some better than most. But in the end they fall into the single trap that unless your printing out Geomorphic Maps, once your done with your adventure, you have no use for what you have left. Unless you revisit that area or its generic enough to be reusable.  In this regard I picked what I consider the top two,
One is again Gaming Paper. These guys have a huge selection of 8×10 maps that all fit together nicely and with this product you can make your own map or set up a predetermined map from their fine selection.

Normally only 4 Dollars.  You should get over there and take a look at these now ! Word is on his page he’s prepping for a large-scale map set as a kickstarter. THIS GUY CANT WAIT.photo-3
