Total Solar Eclipse 2017

In the past many cultures have had various superstitions about eclipses, including “the End of the World”. Here is a good link to further information.

Myths and Superstitions Around Solar Eclipses

Solar eclipses have caused fear, inspired curiosity, and have been associated with myths, legends, and superstitions throughout history. Even today, an eclipse of the Sun is considered a bad omen in many cultures.

Ancient Explanation for Solar Eclipse

Ancient cultures tried to understand why the Sun temporarily vanished from the sky, so they came up with various reasons for what caused a solar eclipse.

In many cultures, the legends surrounding solar eclipses involve mythical figures eating or stealing the Sun. Others interpreted the event as a sign of angry or quarreling gods.

This will be the first total solar eclipse in many peoples memories.

“This is the First Total Solar Eclipse in USA Since 1979. This is the first total eclipse of the Sun visible from the contiguous United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) since February 26, 1979. The last time a total eclipse was visible from coast to coast was on June 8, 1918.

I live in South Carolina, but there are many other links at the following link.

Here is an excerpt from Eclipse2017.org

SOUTH CAROLINA

All good things must come to an end, and at 2:36:02pm, the shadow of the great 2017 total eclipse first touches the final state in its path. South Carolina also brings us the fifth state capital to be immersed in shadow, and several large cities will be able to play host to eclipse-chasers from all over.

Greenville is a very large city, and it is fully in shadow by 2:38pm. Its sister city of Spartanburg, however, is split by the path – you’ll want to head west, and enjoy Greenville’s 2m14s of totality.

Here is a map of the Greenville-Spartanburg area, to show you what’s going on.

Greenwood (2m28s at 2:39) is next on the list of bigger cities to see totality, and then Columbia is treated about two minutes later. The Capitol Building gets just a hair under 2m30s, and would be a great place for workers to take an afternoon shadow-break!

Sumter lies in the path, as do big, beautiful lakes Marion and Moutrie – right on the centerline!! Get out on the boat and soak it in!

The last large city to see the 2017 eclipse will be Charleston. (Here is our detailed eclipse page for Charleston!) It lies on the southern edge of the path, but because folks in Mt. Pleasant will get almost two minutes of totality, Charlestonians should head northeast!

The centerline then cuts across US17, just south of the last city to see the shadow – McClellanville, SC. From there, the shadow will take its leave of the last piece of American soil at 2:49:07.4pm. Quite appropriately, the spot is a long, isolated beach on a barrier island at the tip of a Wildlife Preserve – Cape Romain, just east of McClellanville.

Product Mini Review: Fabled Environments Modern Floorplans “Average Modern Streetscapes”

Modern Floorplans

“Average modern Streetscapes”

By Charles and Krista White

After putting out several other projects Fabled Environments dips back into the well where they started and pulls forth a whole new set of maps. Frankly, I was surprised when I learned that after all of the great buildings and projects that Fabled Environments has put out to date that they have not given us streets sooner. With this map set, we could now just about lay out an entire town with FE products.

This product gives us three three new maps:

Professional- Lynette Group, Adnap Memorial Garden (alternate build), The Provincial Hotel, Concentrix

Commercial-Blanco Drugs, Stixx Pool Hall, St. Michael’s Pub, Ivory Note Lounge Jazz Club, Bytes Cybercafe, Flippin’ Out-Fast Food Restaurant

Residential- Farm House from Working Farm, The Marguerette Apartments

187019

One great thing that was done to further bring all the maps in the FE line together like I mentioned above.

Each Streetscape uses one of the Fabled Environments existing floorplans and provides a portion of that floorplan in the Streetscape. This makes it easy to shift between the street and the structure

Fabled Environments makes use of toggled layers to provide you with the ability to have a more personal level of control over how you want to present your maps to your players. So you don’t want to have a “Blanco Drugs” on the corner ? Remove the text layer and that problem is solved. Or maybe there is a Blanco Drugs on the corner of every street in your game world. Maybe there is something more to Blanco Drugs? It’s in your hands.

If you already own any Fabled Environments maps I highly recommend picking this product up to add it to your collection. It is not their most creative or detailed map set to date. But it likely could prove to be one of the most often used maps in the line depending on how you use them.

Where can I get it ?

Fabled Environments: An Average Wild West Town

This post is a heads up to go get some great content. I am not posting it as a review more because I already know the maps are great. I know most of you that have looked at my past reviews know that their maps are great. Also I have become rather use to them providing adventures with their products. This is a return to the old school for Fabled Enviornments and they do it just as well as always

Fabled Environments has a new set of maps for their fans. Ever wanted to run a wild west game? Well all good wild west games at some point are going to have a shoot out, or a Saloon brawl. Just as likely after either of those events you likely will either be visiting the Sherrif’s office or putting someone in the ground at the local cemetery. Well Fabled Environments is here again to provide!

As always they have put forth another stellar map set. With a bundle of seven buildings and multiple layers for each of your maps. You can bring your wild west town to life. As always the quality of their maps are top-notch and really the only thing that is missing with this product is for you to bring it to life with adventure!

Are you a fan of the Old West and would love to run an RPG set in a Western Town? Have you had problems finding floor plans to use? Well then, welcome to Whistle Reach Junction! This nice little Western Town is sure to please!
All of these structures are presented with a variety of layers that you can turn on and off such as a 5′ grid or hex, labels, furniture and even walls. Each map is presented in Black & White in a traditional floor plan style and has a background on a separate layer that gives the maps an old feel. Each of our projects is produced by an interior designer/architectural drafter using AutoCAD.

The map pack includesIMG_0011
