Rolling Boxcars & Runkle Plays Games Banter Show #1

So with everything going on I was still able to have  a sit down with my friend over at Rolling Boxcars and kick off our fist Banter show. Its rough, but its was our first time out of the box and we will get better as we go. As I have been fighting to not… Continue reading Rolling Boxcars & Runkle Plays Games Banter Show #1

Robotech RPG Tactics, Wave I – Part II (Problematic Models and their assembly, and Component Quality)

I desperately wanted to back this project but I had little to no faith in Palladium. After years and years of loving the RIFTS system and spending what had to be close to twenty years for Beyond the Supernatural. I was sadly certain that this amazing kickstarter was not going to stand up to its deadlines and quality would suffer greatly in the end.
This is a great post about the state of the finished product and the woes of what could have been one of the best kicks of the year.

By way of preface, this was supposed to be a fluff post, and take maybe a couple hours to write while I worked up test models for the game, took pics of the sprues, and noted down the hard spots for a new modeller.

It’s been a sodding week, and I’m only covering the worst offenders so far; the Destroids are on hold until I can get some magnets.

The mini quality has been, hands-down, the most controversial part of the entire game to date. Is everything shit? No, not by any means.
But all three armies (Zentraedi, Malcontent, and UEDF) get the shaft on something. The Quel-Regult is by far the worst offender, with multiple parts that don’t fit, and a missing component (see below). The UEDF player, meanwhile, gets a bit screwed by having even more models to build than the Zen player – models which take almost…

DMing 101 – Christmas

Tis the season and since I am still packing for my move. I thought I would just leave this good bit of reading here for you. I love Themed games.

Welcome to the DMing 101 Christmas special! As part of the ongoing genre’s series, I’ll be offering some advice on how you can run a special game for your friends to make Christmas a bit more nerdy, just like I promised I would (aren’t I nice).

Advance warning: Part of this article espouses views about Christmas that may greatly contradict some people’s perspectives, I know it can be a touchy subject for some, so you have been warned.

From Dungeon Master to Diverse Writer

This hits the nail on the head in many ways. DM’ing for me is not just a love its an obsession and other shadows sheds a little light on the topic wonderfully.

Slowly, you step into the old throne room of the castle, your footsteps echoing back at you as they bounce off of the arched ceiling twenty feet above. The room extends ahead of you, an abandoned hall covered in a layer of dust, empty save for two rows of massive pillars. The air is cold, stale and still. As you progress forward between the pillars, your torchlight reveals the end of the hall, bringing the throne into your view. The grand seat of stone sits upon a wide pedestal of marble, in front of a tattered wall tapestry, flanked by time-worn statues depicting demonic knights. And then, in the illumination of your torch, you notice it: the king’s remains, a cobweb-covered skeleton sitting upon the throne, his hollow eye sockets somehow staring directly at you.

Perhaps I didn’t describe it quite that well at the time – I was fifteen…

Dice Fudge

Had to reblog this.. Maybe My table will see some Fudge, FUDGE dice for an upcoming FATE game.. LOL.

Leisel's avatarSkill Up Skillet

A couple of weeks ago, Neo (the boyfriend) sent me a video link of someone sharing their recipe for crazy-simple microwave fudge. Just by watching the video I knew I had to make it. But how could I possibly make it into something which fit into the overall theme of the blog?

Think, think, think.

Much brainstorming later, it hit me. Dice! I will make fudge, and it will be dice, and it will be scrumptious, and it will be cute. Yes. This is happening. Because fudge. (One does not question a female with chocolate.)

The end result? It’s quick, relatively inexpensive, creamy, and SUPERRICH. The fudge itself requires all of five minutes and five ingredients. That’s it.

Pathfinder Society, You Ruin My Convention Experience!

Great conversation going on over here. And a topic that is proving to be more widespread then some thought.

modoc31's avatarRolling Boxcars

Convention season in the Southeast begins shortly after the new year starts and I have been looking over all the local and regional conventions to fill out my calendar with great convention experiences. So far, I have found several (see the top of the page) that are on my “to go” list, but there are several regional conventions (they shall remain nameless) that are not on my list for good reason. The regional uptick in Pathfinder Society (PFS) games is getting ridiculous!

Before you flame me, I have played Pathfinder and PFS and it’s not a horrible game, but I have issues with the PFS presence at conventions. See here for a previous blog I wrote.

Ok, now onto my newest observations. Several regional conventions are overly bloating their RPG schedules with PFS games. While a large-ish presence of any game is typically a good thing, but when you are advertising…

Fun little blog idea.

I have been thinking about how much I enjoyed the 30 Days of RPG I took part in a few months back. And this morning a few songs came on as I was listening to the radio and inspiration hit. I would like to do  a 12 Days of Gaming  list.. I am not sure what… Continue reading Fun little blog idea.
