So well this happened. Wow. I thought to blog this on Wednesday but I was still in shock. There is so much potential here that it boggles the mind. There is a tremendous amount of content to draw from with the Rifts license.
What we know so far.
Palladium Books announced in their weekly update:
Something new and exciting. In an effort to truly expand Rifts® across the Megaverse®, in cooperation with Palladium Books, another role-playing game company is currently adapting the Rifts® Earth setting to that company’s RPG system of rules, as well as producing adventure sourcebooks. This is only the second time in Palladium’s history that an outside company will create new game material under a different set of rules. Rumor Squashing: No, Palladium is NOT going to stop publishing Rifts®, nor change to a completely different set of rules. Far from it. In fact, Palladium expects to release six new Rifts® titles in 2015 and 98% of all Rifts® titles are in stock and available for purchase right now! The idea is that by offering Rifts® via another game company’s set of popular rules it creates a parallel dimension of gaming enjoyment. An expanding Megaverse®, if you will. This is a bit of an experiment, but we are excited to see how it all unfolds.
Since the announcement Pinnacle has also posted the following.
We’re pleased to announce that we will be developing Rifts for Savage Worlds! We’re early in the process now, but Shane* says we anticipate a core setting book in time for Christmas.
Rifts is a classic muti-genre post-apocalypse game with elements of everything from fantasy and mythology on through cyberpunk and mecha, the realization of Kevin Siembieda’s vision of a game with everything for everyone.
“I’m really excited to see what Rifts will look like in the Savage Worlds system,” said Siembieda. “The Savage fans are great folks, and I think Rifts is going to be an amazing amount of fun for them, letting them explore all the possibilities of both the system and the setting.”
Be sure to keep up with the Pinnacle news for more information as it becomes available!
* You know, leaky ol’ Shane who likes to pass out target dates, which just gives me hives. If it weren’t for him, I might never admit to anything! — Joel
My personal thoughts. It’s a good fit. Years ago when I was first looking at picking up my Rifts books and dusting them off the first system that I looked to update it and make it feel fresh again was Savage Worlds (long before the cypher system as I mention in my RPGaDay blog) . Also I am not the first that has felt this way. So It should be well revived.
For more of my thoughts on the Rifts System Check out this blog back when I did my line or RPGaDay blogs last year Here
I can’t wait! 🙂 This is awesome news.

The more I think about it the more I get excited about the potential as well! As my older blog post states. This was a system for as Crazy no limits from one extreme to the other that it has. For years I played, Ran and loved. It greatly needs a new edition to breath life back into it. And SW is probably the best way to go.
